The Lonely Teacup Club

I've always had a thing for orphaned cups - that is, teacups or coffee cups that have lost their saucers. They are beautiful and useful, and importantly, they make wonderful gifts! I have many friends who have a little cup somewhere on a shelf; some of them use them often, others wouldn't dare touch them in fear of breaking them, but enjoy their company.

And you know what? However much many men wouldn't want to be associated with porcelain trinkets, I have found that many of my gentleman friends, including my own husband, love drinking a strong little black coffee from an antique orphaned cup.

This November, I have dug through all my shelves and boxes, and put together all orphans that I could find. I actually had more than I thought. It's often the coffee cups that seem to get orphaned as people seem to be more focused on teacups. But I also have some wonderful teacups, and a few orphaned siblings (a teacup and coffee cup that lost their shared saucer).

Some of these are a bit more worn, and priced accordingly - but all of them are good for use and of course still wonderful to look at. The cups come in all sorts of styles, from the mid 18thC Qianlong period in China, to the more recent Victorian era in the mid 19thC in Britain.

There are a few really rare finds among these cups: an 18th Century Bow coffee cup with a polychrome Chinese decoration of bright flowers set on rocks, and a very rare Chinese teacup probably from the Qianlong period with a wonderful decoration of large insects.

You can find a video of all the cups on my Instagram page here. And oh, I haven't even managed to get all these cup into the shop... so if you see some that you are interested in, please tell me and I can send you the information!

Where to find things

You can find all my orphans here in my shop, and all my cups and saucers here. You can find all my available stock here. If you always want to see the latest additions, follow me on Instagram... I post pictures and a story several times a week.

Happy weekend everyone, and give a poor orphan a new home! 💔❤️‍🩹♥️
