Plate-mageddon

ree

The last few weeks I have been clearing my shelves, and boxes, and hidden spaces under tables and on top of cabinets. I've been finding all kinds of treasures that I had either forgotten or had not had the time to process yet, and today I am releasing a fantastic large stack of plates made by H&R Daniel, whom I wrote an article about a few years ago and dedicated last week's blog to. Henry Daniel was one of the most talented porcelain makers in 19th Century Britain, and I have quite a few items by this maker new up in the shop. Today it is the turn of the plates!

I was lucky enough the acquire most of these plates a while ago, and as life has been busy and releasing a stack like this takes a significant amount of time, it had not happened yet. And why, do you ask, is a porcelain dealer too busy to release new porcelain...? Well, that's another story, and I will write about that soon... it has to do with the reason that I am clearing my shelves for an exciting new chapter to start.

But first, the plates. Many of them are in the dramatic "pierced shell" shape, others in the very desired "Shrewsbury" shape, and then there are a few in earlier shapes (cusped, and plain, and gadrooned). All of them painted with the most outrageously beautiful flowers, insects, landscapes and birds, and with the bright ground colours that the Daniel family was so famous for.

Henry Daniel, you see, was the son of a colour maker, and apart from being a brilliant designer and artist, he was able to create colours that were unequalled. In fact, any Spode decorations from before 1824 that you know are actually the work of Daniel... but you can read more about that in the article.

For now, enjoy the plates! Many of them have some wear or crazing so the prices are very reasonable, given that these are precious products of one of the most desired makers. And if you want to buy a whole stack, let me know as of course I can discuss prices and shipping. And there is still time before Christmas if you are really fast.

And yes, there is a special large piece as well, you know me... I still have a whole dessert service by this fantastic maker, have a look below...

Where to find things

You can find all my H&R Daniel pieces here in my shop, and you can find all my available stock here. If you always want to see the latest additions, follow me on Instagram... I post pictures and a story several times a week.
