This is a beautiful set of 2 plates and a serving dish made by the Crown Derby Porcelain Company between 1800 and 1810.

The Crown Derby Porcelain Company, later called Royal Crown Derby, is currently the oldest British porcelain factory still in production. Crown Derby was one of the most prominent potteries right from the start of English porcelain production in the mid 1700s to today. Their items are of exceptionally high quality and many of the designs have become iconic, particularly the Imari designs; many of these are still being made today. The marking at the bottom of the items indicates that the set was produced some time between 1800 and 1810.

These items were made in the Regency era. The pattern consists of a broad band of polychrome sprigs in puce, red, gilt and blue, and there is a wonderful element of what seems to be a plant pot - or is it a fire lit in a cauldron? At the foot of the pot/cauldron are little grape vines. The colours remind of the Japanese imari palette, yet the pattern is very Western.

The shape of the serving dish is interesting: it is shaped in the way that many silver dishes were shaped in the late 18th Century, and it is an iconic shape for Crown Derby dessert services.

All items carry the red Derby mark that was used between 1800 and 1810.

These items would look fabulous either on display or as serving dishes at a dinner table - they would make a terrific gift to an antiques lover.

CONDITION REPORT The set is in excellent condition except some wear, which is visible in the pictures. There are no chips or cracks.

Please note that all items in my shop are of vintage or antique condition. They have often been used for many years and can have normal signs of wear. I will reflect any damage, repairs or heavy wear in the item description but some minor scratches, nicks and stains can be normal for vintage items and need to be taken into account.

There is widespread confusion on the internet about the difference between chips and nicks, or hairlines and cracks. I will reflect any damage as truthfully as I can, i.e. a nick is a tiny bit of damage smaller than 1mm and a chip is something you can see with the eye; a hairline runs over the surface glazing but not the body of the item and a crack runs through the body of the item, usually weakening its structure. Etcetera - I try to be as accurate as I can and please feel free to ask questions or request more detailed pictures!
