On offer is a spectacular Tea for One set consisting of a teacup trio, teapot, creamer and sugar bowl. It was manufactured by Shelley in 1933. The pattern is called "Bands and Lines" and the shape of the items is called "Regent" and is very desired for its ultra-thin porcelain and graceful shape.

The pattern is a wonderful display of very bright orange and grey bands and lines, and what is special about it is that this particular registration number, 12132, was registered as yellow and green (and I have seen yellow and green ones before), however this set is in orange and grey, so it seems to be a custom order. It is an amazing example of the Art Deco style at its best; angular, smooth, modern - yet with very warm colours that will brighten up your table.

Shelley was one of the most respected makers of fine bone china in the first part of the 20th Century. Their designs were imaginative and they were a big force in the Art Deco movement when it comes to tableware. Like many other potteries, they were not able to keep going once the industry weakened in the 1950s and 1960s and they closed their doors in 1966 - a great loss for English pottery. Their tableware is now widely seen as collectors' items and looking at this set, you can see why: the bright colours, fine porcelain and interesting angular yet graceful shapes.

CONDITION REPORT The set is in perfect vintage condition with no significant wear and no damage at all - this is rare! There is some very slight wear to the colour on the tip of the teapot spout (not the spout itself), but I have not been able to detect any other flaws.

All items have the genuine Shelley mark in green. They also carry the hand painted registration number 12132, which stands for the "Bands and lines" series on the Regent shape. As described above, this must have been a custom order as the registration book mentioned this as being done in green and yellow and there is no mention of orange and grey.

Please note that all items in my shop are of vintage or antique condition. They have often been used for many years and can have normal signs of wear. I will reflect any damage, repairs or heavy wear in the item description but some minor scratches, nicks and stains can be normal for vintage items and need to be taken into account.

There is widespread confusion on the internet about the difference between chips and nicks, or hairlines and cracks. I will reflect any damage as truthfully as I can, i.e. a nick is a tiny bit of damage smaller than 1mm and a chip is something you can see with the eye; a hairline runs over the surface glazing but not the body of the item and a crack runs through the body of the item, usually weakening its structure. Etcetera - I try to be as accurate as I can and please feel free to ask questions or request more detailed pictures!

DIMENSIONS cup 9cm (3.5") diameter, saucer 14.2cm (5 5/8"), side plate 17.8cm (7"), creamer stands 9.5cm (3 3/4") high and measures 14cm (5.5") spout to handle, sugar bowl 13.5cm (5 3/8") diameter; teapot stands 14cm (5.5") high including lid and filial and measures 24cm (9.5") handle to spout.

In some countries shipping will end up significantly more than the expected fees and I will contact you to discuss our options.
