This is a charming vintage tin spoon box made in The Netherlands in the early to mid 20th Century. The box is printed with very charming river landscapes.

We don't really know the origin of these boxes but many Dutch families use them for their spoons - my mother kept her treasured silver apostle spoons in one. It is likely that this box was sold full of chocolate "pastilles" (round lozenges) and meant to be kept and used as a spoon box after all the chocolates had been eaten. There is no branding so we don't know what company offered this to their customers but these boxes are now a collectors' item.

The box has charming prints of a river landscape with sailing boats, river banks with willow trees, and 17th Century figures fishing and wind mills and a little town with a church spire on the other shore. The box is lined with thin red felt.

CONDITION REPORT The box has some wear and some minor dents, as visible in the pictures. The felt on the inside is a little discoloured but otherwise in good condition. The colours have been preserved well.
