This is a stunning set of six coffee cups and saucers, made by Davenport some time between 1920 and 1825, in the Regency period.

The shape of the cups is the famous "London" shape with its square handle with a pointed thumb rest, and a nicely flared lip. The cups are made of extremely fine, bright white porcelain and the shapes are potted very finely. The pattern is a beautiful wreath of pink roses, also called "Billingsley roses", after the famous painter William Billingsley, who became famous for the wonderful way he painted roses and then travelled around many of the potteries to teach others how to paint them. The gilding on this set is exquisite: the foliage of the roses is done in bright gilt, the bottom of the cups and wells of the saucers each have a beautiful centre piece with a tulip detail, and further stylised tulip details are painted on the outside of the cups. The cups and saucers are lined with a fine shark tooth rim, as many Davenport items were. The number of this pattern is 5168 and this is a famous pattern - see elsewhere in the shop for a large bowl in the same pattern.

This set would make a great display for an antiques lover, but equally it would be a fabulous wedding gift as it excellent for use.

CONDITION REPORT The set is in excellent antique condition without any damage or repairs. Most pieces have some slight crazing and therefore do not ring true, however this has not resulted in any discolouration or stains and the porcelain is still extremely white. The decorations are in fabulous condition and the gilt has not had any rubbing other than some very minor scratches from handling; the cups seem to have never been used.

Please note that all items in my shop are of vintage or antique condition. They have often been used for many years and can have normal signs of wear. I will reflect any damage, repairs or heavy wear in the item description but some minor scratches, nicks and stains can be normal for vintage items and need to be taken into account.

There is widespread confusion on the internet about the difference between chips and nicks, or hairlines and cracks. I will reflect any damage as truthfully as I can, i.e. a nick is a tiny bit of damage smaller than 1mm and a chip is something you can see with the eye; a hairline runs over the surface glazing but not the body of the item and a crack runs through the body of the item, usually weakening its structure. Etcetera - I try to be as accurate as I can and please feel free to ask questions or request more detailed pictures!
