The word "Imari" is often used for porcelain that is decorated in the colour scheme of cobalt blue, red, green and gilt. But what is the origin of the word? And how come that it appears in so many different styles?
In this week's video I am showing two Derby tea services that are very different, yet they are both in the Imari style. But one from the early 19th Century, the other from the late 19th Century. From a faithful imitation of the Japanese Imari style it turned into a very Victorian and English design - both beautiful in their own way.
Watch the video for the full story and to appreciate the beauty of these items. And of course you can find them in my shop here.
